UPDATE TO SILVER SPRINGS – BUILDING EXPANSION

We’re excited to share an update on the progress of the Silver Springs building expansion!
We’ve recently received updated architectural drawings, marking a major milestone in the project. With momentum building, we’re pleased to share that we have secured a loan through the Calgary Foundation to help us move forward and get shovels in the ground.
We are actively pursuing additional funding to cover the remaining project costs and continue to engage with partners and supporters.
Here’s a look at the next steps in the process:
- Development Permit: Our application has been submitted and is currently under review and will take approximately 3 months for approval
- Construction Drawings: Once the Development permit is approved, our drawings will be advanced to almost 100%
- Tendering Process: The project will go out to tender to gather bids from potential contractors.
- Plan Adjustments: We’ll make necessary revisions to ensure we stay within budget.
- City Review: We’ll take part in a financial and technical review through the City of Calgary.
- Contractor Selection: Final contractor(s) will be selected based on the tender results.
Our goal is to begin construction in Spring 2026, with an estimated build time of 16–18 months.
While the building layout and design are nearly finalized, we’d still love your input on how we can make this new space feel welcoming, inclusive, and well-used by everyone.

In 2018, two community volunteers had a dream. A warm skate shack, with washrooms and a storage garage for the rink volunteers. In 2023, this became a reality. It also grew into something much bigger. A 2-storey addition to our building that will also offer everything from the original vision and more. Kneeling in the snow to tie your child’s skates and using a porta potty will be a thing of the past. The Silver Springs Community Association “SSCA” is a hub all year round and provides a free, safe, always inviting atmosphere for all ages.
Phase 1 will include:
- a ground level, accessible room that will be a warm, dry area to put on your skates
- accessible, gender neutral, public washrooms available to community users year round
- garage to store and repair equipment used by our amazing volunteer rink maintenance crew
- storage for our West Valley Softball and Norwest Soccer programs.
- multi purpose room that can hold 80-100 people, allowing SSCA to provide additional youth and senior programs
- indigenous artwork, to further our commitment to truth and reconciliation
Phase 2 is the upgrade of the rinks and surrounding outdoor common areas.
