A Message from Councillor Kim Tyers | April 2026
Thank you to everyone for following water restriction measures during the Bearspaw South Feeder Main Reinforcements. As Bowness is a high-risk area, residents are being asked to prepare in case of another break. For more information about how you can prepare or about the BSFM construction, please email BSFMProject@calgary.ca.
Stage B of the BSFM Replacement Project, spanning from 73 Street NW to 87 Street NW, is expected to begin in May 2026 using an open-cut method. The replacement feeder main, consisting of an additional steel pipe, will be installed on 34 Avenue NW, parallel to the existing pipe.
The community has expressed concerns regarding increased traffic due to BSFM construction detours. I questioned City Administration about what action will be taken to ease traffic and will continue to advocate on behalf of the community. Please email my office at ward1@calgary.ca to express traffic-related concerns and suggestions.
On March 9th 2026, I attended the Bowness Community Association to officially open the Community Resource Centre that will provide residents, who are experiencing disruptions due to the BSFM construction, with direct in-person access to city employees who can answer questions and provide support.
I had the honour of speaking on a panel at the annual She Governs event hosted by Equal Voice at City Hall. She Governs teaches participants about Calgary’s municipal government through a model council meeting about local issues. I also toured the Glenbow Museum at the JR Shaw Centre for the Arts and Culture, the Werklund Centre, and the Calgary Telus Convention Centre. It is great to see the work being done in Calgary to attract economic activity and support the arts.
Please contact my office to share feedback or invite me to your community event. Your input is integral to my work.
