Position Summary
Silver Springs Preschool is a community-based preschool dedicated to nurturing the development of
young children through play-based learning and strong family partnerships. We firmly believe that social and emotional development is the foundation for lifelong learning. Through meaningful indoor and outdoor play experiences, children build the confidence, curiosity, and skills needed to thrive. We are seeking a passionate and collaborative Primary Educator to join our team for the upcoming school year. The successful candidate will create and implement engaging, play-based learning experiences for 4-year-old preschool classes while fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
Our program places a strong emphasis on outdoor learning, and the successful candidate will spend time outdoors with children in all seasons, supporting exploration, creativity, and active play. This is a part-time position of approximately 21–24 hours per week, working Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Scheduled hours will typically fall between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., with some flexibility based on program needs.
Additional hours may be available through our on-call substitute list on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Responsibilities
Classroom Leadership
● Plan, prepare, and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate, play-based learning
experiences.
● Foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development through responsive
teaching practices.
● Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
● Supervise children during indoor and outdoor learning experiences.
● Support positive guidance strategies and promote children’s independence and confidence.
Program Delivery
● Design and adapt emergent programming based on children’s interests and developmental
needs.
● Participate in outdoor learning experiences several times each day in all seasons.
● Maintain organized, engaging classroom environments and learning materials.
● Support special events, field trips, and family engagement activities.
Collaboration & Communication
● Work collaboratively with fellow educators, support staff, and the Program Lead.
● Build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
● Communicate professionally with families regarding children’s learning and development.
● Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning
opportunities.
Administration & Compliance
● Complete required documentation and child observations in a timely manner.
● Maintain accurate records as required by licensing and preschool policies.
● Ensure compliance with Alberta licensing regulations, health and safety requirements, and
preschool procedures.
● Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and well-resourced learning environment.
Qualifications
● Minimum Level 2 Early Childhood Educator Certification.
● Current Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check.
● Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
● Passion for play-based and emergent curriculum.
● Enthusiasm for outdoor education and willingness to participate in activities such as hiking,
biking, skating, and other outdoor experiences.
● Strong understanding of child development and early learning practices.
● Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
● Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Positive, flexible, and collaborative approach to working as part of a team.
● Ability to take initiative, demonstrate sound judgment, and respond effectively to changing
situations.
