Meet our dance instructors
Sophia Frenette
Dance program coordinatorRachael Sophia is an emerging dance performer, teacher, and choreographer from Abbotsford, British Columbia, now based in Calgary, Alberta. She began her dance training as a child at Creative Edge School of Arts, focusing on RAD ballet, lyrical, jazz, and musical theatre.
Sophia recently graduated from The University of Calgary with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in dance. As a student, she had the opportunity to perform in productions, such as Dance@Noon, Dance@Night, Mainstage, TransFoRM and Alchemy Festival. She has also done choreography for Dance@Noon 2023 and Dance@Night 2025. One of Sophia’s biggest accomplishments as a student was being invited to perform in a popping piece choreographed by Jacksun Fryer for TransFoRM 2024.
She is excited to share her knowledge from both her competition studio and university dance program experience with the next generation. Sophia’s philosophy is to always keep dancers physically, mentally, and emotionally safe, while reminding dancers why we love to dance.
Kai Baldwin
Jazz & lyrical instructorLaura Kai Baldwin, raised in Calgary, Alberta, is a dancer, choreographer, and instructor. She began her training at the age of three at Danscott Studio, where she trained and competed extensively. Kai is well-versed in a variety of styles, including contemporary, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre, ballet, tap, and heels.
She has successfully completed her RAD Advanced 2 and ADAPT Advanced examinations, demonstrating a strong technical foundation.
Most recently, Kai graduated from the CLI Conservatory in Massachusetts, a pre-professional dance program, where she gained experience performing and working in professional-level environments. During her time there, she has trained under and worked with industry leaders such as Teddy Forance, Martha Nichols, and Lucy Vallely.
Kai is passionate about sharing her love of dance with her community and inspiring the next generation of dancers.
Faith Sexton
Pre-ballet, pre-dance & musical theatre instructorLisa Faith Sexton is a Calgary-born performer, dancer, and teacher with 16 years of dance experience. She trained for nine years at Expressions The Dance Gallery in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and musical theatre.
Faith recently graduated from the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, BC, with a Diploma of Performing Arts. During her time at CCPA, she continued to grow as both a performer and choreographer, most recently performing as Clarisse in The Lightning Thief.
Faith discovered her love of teaching while assisting with classes through Expressions’s Stars Team program. Since then, she has gained experience teaching at dance camps, assisting with classes, and creating her own choreography.
What she loves most about teaching is watching dancers find confidence in themselves, discover their own style, and have fun while learning. Faith is passionate about creating a positive and encouraging environment where dancers feel comfortable being themselves, taking risks, and growing both in and out of the studio.
Malia Vitug
Hip hop instructorMalia is 23 years old, born in California. She has been part of the dance community since she was just 3 years old. Throughout her training, Malia explored a wide range of styles, including ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. At 12-years-old, she decided to focus solely on hip-hop. From there, Malia dove deeper into the culture and immersed herself in learning as much as she could about its history, foundations, and artistry. Malia has now been teaching and educating a wide variety of students and adults for over 8 years.
Today, she’s a Co-Director of The Masses, one of Calgary’s leading street dance companies, established in 2022. Malia also works year-round with the Calgary Catholic School District, educating students about the culture and foundations of hip-hop. She has had the privilege of teaching and training internationally, as well as throughout Canada. Malia believes that dance comes from the heart first. Staying inspired, remaining open-minded, and always being willing to learn are some of the most important things to me—not only as a dancer, but as an educator and artist as well.
Talia Irvine
Dance assistant instructorTalia has been dancing since the age of three, beginning with ballet and tap before exploring a variety of other styles, including acro, lyrical, and hip hop. After 13 years of dance, she continues to pursue her passion for hip hop through both team and solo competitions in Calgary and Edmonton. In the 2025/2026 dance season, Talia earned Distinction and Diamond awards, celebrating her dedication, hard work, and growth as a dancer.
Dance has always been a safe space for Talia—a place where she can express her feelings, be herself, and connect with others. She hopes to share her love and passion for dance with your children throughout this program while helping them build confidence, have fun, and discover their own love for movement.
Outside of dance, Talia enjoys playing flag football, spending time with her friends and family, and hiking. She is excited to inspire your children, encourage their creativity, and introduce them to the wonderful world of dance!
