DESCRIPTION:GARDEN TALK #1: Wednesday\, March 16\, 2022 (7:30 pm- virtually via Zoom) \nRainwater Harvesting \nPresented by: Mitch Rawlyk\, Verge Permaculture \n  \n\nWhat is Rainwater Harvesting (RWH)\, and why you should consider it.\n\n(Rainwater Harvesting is the collection and storage of rain water that runs off roof tops\, parks\, roads\, and open grounds.) \n\nThe benefits of RWH to you and your community.\nThe elements of a successful design\, including storage\nMyths and misconceptions of Rainwater Harvesting\nOther possibilities and uses for Rainwater Harvesting\n\nMitch Rawlyk grew up in Silver Springs\, graduated Bowness High School\, and successfully achieved a BSc. in Physical Geography\, with a focus in Earth Systems (UVic). He attained his MSc. in Applied Meteorology at the U. of Otago\, NZ\, where he researched the incidence of frost events in complex terrain for vineyards in that area. \nMitch currently works at ‘Verge Permaculture’ as an Environmental Technologist. He assists in the teaching of the ‘Essential Rainwater Harvesting Course’\, and is lead Instructor for the ‘Climate Section of the Permaculture Design Certificate.’ He is presently researching the effectiveness of the climate battery for their company’s passive solar greenhouse. \nMitch presently lives in Central Alberta\, where he plans on building an animal-integrated regenerative orchard. Mitch loves cycling\, hiking\, gardening\, and cooking; he is also an avid photographer. \nRegister here $15

DESCRIPTION:This Safety awareness program is for children who are or will be staying home on their own.  Participants will learn skills that will make their experience more comfortable and give themselves confidence.  The class includes games\, scenarios and role playing that depict everyday situations in order to teach youngsters safety awareness\, accident prevention and basic first aid skills.  Come out and have some fun!  Younger siblings who are between eight and ten years old are encouraged to sign up as well.  The course is taught by an experienced First Aid instructor. \nDate:  June 19\, 2021  \nTime:  10:00am – 12:00pm \nCost:  $30.00/ participant (includes course booklet) \n*minimum of 6 registrants needed to run course. \nRegister Here

DESCRIPTION:Red Cross Babysitter Program (11 – 15yrs)   Part 1\nThis Babysitting course teaches 11-15 year olds to confidently handle the responsibilities of being a babysitter.  They will learn first aid safety tips\, injury prevention and first aid as well as be introduced to CPR.  They will learn to care for children of all ages as well as diaper and feed babies and some basic business skills.  All of this will be taught in a fun and interactive environment. DESCRIPTION:This event will be delivered online using Zoom video conferencing. Participants will be able to see and speak to the instructor and classmates\, making it an interactive experience\, almost like being in the same room! \nTo participate\, registrants need a computer or tablet with speakers and an internet connection.  A device camera is optional.
